I was diagnosed with Celiac and Diabetes 5 years ago. My menu: grilled chicken salad/honey mustard dressing. Tacos, enchiladas, Delimex brand of taquitos. Lays, Stax,Cheetos,Fritos. Breakfast, eggs, hashbrowns, bacon. Hope you like vegetables, baked potatoes and fruit. Wendy's fries okay to eat,No to Mcdonalds, steak and shake.Buffet vegs.and salads can be contaminated. I am always hungry, the expensive gluten free food is not worth buying, horrible taste and texture(bread, crackers, etc..save your money)!

Addition to yesterday's reply: when you order French fries, make sure to ask if they cook them separately or in the same oil as they do their breaded items (chicken strips, fish, cheese stix, etc). If they use the same oil, its a definite no-no. Also, when ordering mashed potatoes, make sure they're REAL potatoes and that the gravy is made with cornstarch. Also, some grocery stores now have gluten-free sections that have cake mixes, etc. Have also seen gluten-free frozen waffles. And some packages will specifically say if it is or is not gluten-free. READ THE FINE PRINT!

I have numerous allergies and have found that EACH time I purchase any type of processed food (canned, frozen, etc.), I must check the label. Often foods that were formally safe are found to be tainted with forbidden ingredients. The small time spent reading labels can save so much pain, expense, and trauma, especially if your allergies are life-threatening. Ask your physician for recommendations on emergency measures should you accidentally ingest an offending food. I have to carry an Epi-Pen (prescription), but not so serious reactions can often be averted with a quick dose of Benadryl. My allergist recommended I subscribe to the free e-mail alerts at: http://www.foodallergy.org/You will be amazed at the foods that get contaminated with items not disclosed on the label. I've found eliminating most processed foods and focusing on fresh fruits & vegetables has made a tremendous difference in my overall health - plus I've lost 40 pounds with no effort!

As a mom of a food allergic child, I have to remind everyone that wheat-free is not the same as gluten-free. That said, the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network is the best place for food allergy information. www.foodallergy.org There are good wheat free food choices out there. You just have to look for them. As far as bread goes, nothing is ever going to match good old white bread, but I do recommend you buy a bread machine and a good wheat free bread recipe book. They will be your best friends. I wish you the best with learning to live with your food allergy, and I promise that it will get easier to live with. Also, just in case you like IHOP.....their omelettes have some of their pancake batter mixed in. And their pancakes are NOT wheat free. Best of luck to you!
