Hi everyone. Have any of you tried the Special K diet? According to the cereal, if you eat 2 meals of cereal (or another Special K products such as a protein bar), 2 snacks and a regular dinner, you can lose weight.

I just wondered if anyone has had any luck doing that?

Thanks!

Hi,
Before I had to change my diet to gluten free, I tried this diet for a few days, but couldn't do it because I have a tendency to have low blood sugar and I was always hungry and shaky after eating the cereal. It has too much high fructose corn syrup in it. It may work for you as everyone is different. Good luck!

Hi Jackie,
Gluten comes from wheat so basically I can't eat anything that has wheat in it. Lori, the diet that has worked best for me is using whey protein powder (I use a brand called Designer Whey) and mixing it with some frozen fruit and fat free or 1% milk, and drinking that for breakfast and lunch, with in between snacks of veggies or fruit and water and then for dinner, I eat a salad with salsa for dressing and half of what I would normally eat. I also started walking every morning. This helped me loose 15 pounds and I still have another 15 to go. Hope this helps!!

Lori, their is nothing "special" or magical about the Special K Diet. At the end of the day, it is basically a clever marketing ploy concoted by Kellogg to get you to buy their nutritonally-empty cereal, line of "nutrition" bars and protein drinks.

Could you lose weight on this "diet"? Sure. But you could also lose the same amount of weight by simply pulling back on your calories -- which is basically what the Special K diet does. This diet is all about calorie-control - and not about any special weight-loss properties in the Special K foods themselves.

If you're interested in the details, you can check out my review of the diet here:

Best of luck!
