Any one know of home remedies for a toothache. I can't get into the Denist for awhile. I have tried peppermint oil, over the counter stuff. I have resorted to eating aspirins. Can't do that to long with burning a hole in my gums. Can't take any RXs because I don't digest pills.

Unfortunately, I have a lot of experience in this area.I seem to have inherited my mothers bad teeth. I recently discovered something over the counter that helps. It is called Orajel Medicated Toothache Swabs. The home remedy that my mother taught me, is to take a small piece of a cotton ball and soak it in alcohol-in case there is any question I mean Rum or any other kind of alcohol you drink. After you soak the small piece of a cotton ball, use tweezers or just set it on top of the tooth that is hurting. Honestly, that is what usually works best for me, even though it may not taste too good. But, I never really liked the taste of Orajel either. I really hope this helps, because I know the misery of toothaches!!

SmilerTeri, Thank you!! I will give your two suggestions a try. Jack Daniels should work. I can't drink but I think putting it on a cotton ball would'nt count as drinking. I only have a vise and that's my cigerettes. Everything else is a NO NO because of my health....Take Care and Thanks again.

Irecently discovered the Orajel Medicated Swabs also. I had a terrible tooth ache and it was over the weekend, and Monday before I could see my dentist. The swabs are great, I recommend them for temporary use. I needed to have my tooth extracted and the dentist suggested to me that to help stop the bleeding use a wet tea bag, and lay it on the spot the toothe was removed for 10 minutes or so, couples times a day. The antitoxin in the tea will help the wound heal.He was correct, the bleeding was very little and I didn't have alot of pain, I healed very quickly. You can use any kind of tea bag, I used green tea, only because I drink alot of it.

I have a sister that's into herbal remedies. Use a rinse of water, peppermint oil, lemon oil and salt, periodically throughout the day. You can apply a drop of Tei-Fu (sold at medicine shops) to the affected area. You can also suck on a whole clove. Hope this helps.

Whodunnit

2ofusmake4 my heart goes put to you! That is awful and must of been a very frightening experience for you. My girlfriend in Virginia just went through a major dental procedure last week. Her teeth were in really bad shape. While she was in recovery her blood pressure shot up to something like 200/100, thank God they got it back down. I am the kind of person that believes no procedure is a small procedure. A girl I went to school with went to the hospital to have a baby, and died from an allergic reaction to the anesthesia. I really hope your husband is doing better! Take care.

I was always told cloves or clove oil to reduce pain & infection for a toothache. A friend of mine said her dentist actually uses clove oil in his office; however, it's a bandaid fix. If you are having a toothache, a professional should look at it. You do not want damage to the tooth or gums or have to go in for a major procedure. It has been determined good oral health is instrumental to overall health.

My daughter and I have both had toothaches recently and I can't afford any trips to the dentist for a while. So, I bought a tube of Sensodyne toothpaste and we both started using it morning and night. Both our toothaches went away! We probably don't have true cavities if a toothpaste made the pain go away, but it might help.

I gargle with Peroxide. It's nasty but it seems to help. My neighbor used Listerine. Good luck that's a painful thing to have. Parks5

I feel for you, I am in the same position. I have a tooth that disintegrated while awaiting a crown. I have always had bad teeth, and while you are eating aspirins, you should be taking ibuprofen. I would either suggest taking childrens' LIQUID ibuprofen or 800 mg of regular ibuprofen (usually 4 pills). Smash them up and swallow them with sugar, to hide the taste. NO more than 8 a day though! I was hooked on vicodins until my doctor said no just take ibuprofens, after all the years of bad aches....simple ibuprofen. It reduces the swelling around the nerve which is causing the pain! The oils are not much relief for long term.
If you are getting air on the tooth (have a cavity) I would suggest getting a temp-fil that you can purchase at a drugstore. Fill it yourself until you get to a dentist, it lasts a long time, I had to that while I was on vacation once.
ALso, if it's just irritation, LISTERINE KILLS everything! It's a short term relief but it works!
Good luck!
