Was it a buddy who first dragged you along -- and got you hooked? Did you read an article extolling the virtues of walking for fitness? Or maybe you simply started strolling as a way to get from point A to point B -- and found you loved it!

We want to know that one catalyst that kicked off your walking program!

My Hubby got me started in walking. I was alway thin and really didn't feel like I needed to walk, but He was alway inviting me to go do 3 miles with him and I felt that was alot and said no way. I kind of felt bad for him since he is obligated to walk to keep fit for the U.S. Army, and I stated to walk with him. It felt great afterwoods, and now I walk all the time weather its with him or alone, and I enjoy it.

When I quit smoking ten years ago, I started walking to help curb the cravings for a cigarette. It really helped and I kept at it for about a year and half. I bought a treadmill, but lost my interest in walking about six months after using it. Last summer I decided to lose the weight I have been carrying since I quit smoking, and started walking again. It no only helps in keeping the weight off, but it helps me to destress.

Basically, it was my health. Over the last several years I have had many surgeries, been diagnosed with several ailments. Been put on several meds and gained weight. Walking is the easiest for me to do and still be able to function the next day.

TO GET ME WALKING WAS MY JOB; I WORK AT A HIGH SCHOOL THAT HAS HALL MONITORS AND WE WALK ALL DAY LONG AND NOW THAT SCHOOL IS OUT FOR THE SUMMER, I WALK IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD AND AROUND TOWN IN THE PARK AND JUST TO THE DOWNTOWN AREA. I DO ALL THIS WALLKING DURING THE SUMMER SO THAT WHEN I GO BACK TO SCHOOL IN AUGUST I WON'T BE TRIED AND OUT OF SHAPE.

The view here in Germany. So many place to see locally and the best way to do it is on foot. I walked at home too, but I was born and raised there and I've seen it all. Nothing like new surroundings to get you going.

I was moving around in pain for four years, I finally had a total hip replacement last year at the age of 45. I am now walking one mile, five days a week. I am 100 pounds over weight so this is a big accomplishment for me and I am proud to say I have walked 65 miles in the past five months.

I surprisingly got very sick, ended up in the hospital and nearly died due to a blood loss. When I got my hospital records, they described me as obese, an insult that was like a punch in the stomach. So, I changed my diet and started walking my dogs. Within the first week I was up to a mile and now I do 2 miles each walk. I bought headphones and a water bottle for my dogs and I feel so accomplished (and sweaty) when I am done. I can't believe this is me, who always had to park nearest to the place I am going ! I have lost 30 pounds, feel like a rock star and love it when people notice the difference.

My doctor told me to start walking. I walk all day at my job up and down the halls in and out of patients rooms getting them to exercise but that was not enough. So I got a pedometer and I'm doing about 20,000 steps a day and down 10 pounds. Thats with eating what ever I want.
