I have to take a pain pill or muscle relaxer every single night. Having fibro, I have the restless leg syndrome EVERYWHERE!!!
My shoulders do that, arms, legs, etc. If I don't take something, I literally can not handle it. They do have the new meds for RLS. Have you asked your doctor about prescribing something? My sister tried Requip and it worked wonders for her.

Had this problem but not as bad. Started drinking diet tonic water. Contains quinine and seems to work.

I was prescribed Lyrica for FMS and it takes care of most of the pain associated with my legs, but I agree that anything with quinine helps the horrific muscle spasms that accompany FMS and RLS.

In our paper, buffalo news - several folks wrote in that placing a simple bar of ivory or similar soap under the sheets by your legs works like magic - tell me if it works

Here is a link to the People's Pharmacy about soap under the sheets (apparently Ivory works best) for people with restless leg syndrome:

Are there any side effects?

restless leg syndrome is a result of a magnesium deficiency. Try taking a good powdered calcium/magnesium/ vitamin D supplement one hour before bed. The one I take is called Ionic Fizz and I purchase mine at wholesale cost through vitacost.com This along with a daily dose of quality Omega 3's will cure your restless leg syndrome. Dr's will not tell you this because there is no money to be made for them if they cannot perscribe drug's.

I use Magnesium, also Zinc, and especially 1 or 2 bars of soap under my bottom sheet on my bed. Calcium is also important for leg cramps. Since using the soap, I no longer get the RLS but occas. I do get charley horses which is probably from my Potassium being down if I drink too many fluids.

It's funny I would see this. I have fibro and truly have suffered with RLS but I get it in my arms with the fibro. Sounds strange but alot of fibro sufferers I know have the same issue. Anyways, after going to bed at 2 am, I was up before 6 because my legs started flipping out. I am not used to my legs doing it and can barely stand it right now. I have heard Requip does work and may have to talk to my doc about it. This is a terrible feeling.

I've had FMS for 10 yrs and RLS for about 5 yrs. I tried it all, but nothing - and I really do mean nothing - worked until Requip. I have to have it everynight or I'm walking the floors all night (miserable!). I hate having to be dependent on Requip but at least it means dependable relief. Hope you find something that works for you.

I have had RLS it seems forever. I have been taking Mirapex for almost 9 years now and it helps greatly. What makes my RLS worse is sitting in a tight place like the middle seat on a plane or doing exercise just before bed.
Yahoo has an RLS support group you might want to join.
