I also have RLS but mild. Exercise helps a lot. Daily walks for at least an hour. Massage, warm or cold baths, acupuncture could also benefit. I get it more when I'm sitting down for a long period of time and I get up and start walking or jogging in place. At night warm milk before bed has help me sleep.

I had suffered 3-5 hours nightly for almost 3 years, and tried everything. Could not sit still to read, watch t-v, etc., and no sleep. Finally, my doctor put me on Requip, and I have been free from the curse of RLS for 3 months.

Mariann,
I also have this problem, altho not often. A prescription from my doctor for Quinine Sulfate 260 mg. helps me. I take one of these as soon as the restless legs problem starts and in half an hour, the problem is gone. I only have this happen when I am in bed and not often. If you take the prescription for Requip, you have to take it every day. In my case, that didn't seem necessary. Hope you get help as this is miserable.

Thank you all for the advice. I am going to try the home remedies, you all advised first, if that doesn't work, I guess I will need to see the doctor. Thanks Again, Mariann Smiler

I have had rls for 10 years. I also have fibromylgia. I take a very mild form of a med. that is used for Parkinson disease. athis has helped me when attacks me. This has got to be something that just drives me crazy. I hope you get relief because it makes you feel so helpless and somethingyou just can not control. God bless.

I, too, have Restless Leg Syndrome. Not one night goes by that I am not afflicted by it. I take Requip when it acts up and it takes 2 hours to calm it down most nights. By then the medicene puts me to sleep. My Dad had it and also his Dad. Back then the doctors remedy was to walk on a cold floor. The doctor also told me to try extra Iron and Magnesium. Very seldom do I have a night that my legs, and sometimes my arms, give me peace until I take the Requip. I have taken other meds over the years and after a while my body adjust to them and we have to try something different.

I also have RLS and take meds for it, but I have found the cramps that sometimes accompany it are relieved since I put a bolster at the foot of my bed to keep my feet flat against. It seems to really aide in both symptoms, agitation and cramps.

Started having Restless Leg Syndrome about 5 years ago, started usually about 1/2 hr after going to sleep and lasted from 1 - 3 hrs. Then 2 years ago I started having problems with not being able to sleep (my heart started pounding like crazy) and I was awake ALL night (that happened quite often). When I mentioned this to a neighbour, who was a Biologist), she told me to check the food I eat in the evening and see if it has Fructose Corn Syrup in it. Well, I was amazed (my Icecream, Ketchup, Jams, Pkg. Gravy, Breadcrumbs, Mayonnaise, Choc. Syrup, BBQ Sauce, Terryaki Sauce, some Breads, Muffins etc. etc.) I started cooking everything from scratch and go by Organic and now I am sleeping again. With the occasional Restless Leg Syndrome. So I tried by stopping to eating anything with Sugar in it in the afternoon, and that really is helping. As soon as I have something that has sugar in it, like maybe a cookie or a little Ice Cream, back was the Restless Leg Syndrome. Try it, watch what you eat after 1pm (Seems that anything I eat after that, effects my sleep). Good Luck

I also have RA and Fibro. and my Dr. says she does not think I have RLS, but I begged to differ. I can't stop my lower legs from bouncing, if I,am sitting they are going. If they are not bouncing they are rocking. I think that they all go together. I agree you have to laugh, because it could be worse.
Take Care and KEEP LAUGHING

Karin, Thanks for the info. I am going to do exactly as you said. I am a sweet eater in the evening so I will be careful with the Fructose Corn Syrup and see if it helps. I will let you know. Thanks Again. Mariann

I also have restless leg syndrome and my mom told me about this to help and it really does. When experiencing restless legs, stand with your back against the wall and do deep knee bends. I do them for as long as I can before my legs start getting weak. When I go back to bed I fall right asleep (I think it tires the muscles in your legs out). I do about 20 knee bends.
Hope this helps!
