I'm sure you have already tried the 30 minute potty routine where you take her out in 30 min. intervals reguardless of whether or not she has to go. Is it when your away that she has accidents or when you are home? I rescue dogs. I have found homes for about 47 dogs and 3 cats and a goat in the last 2 years. I've come across alot of situations like yours. What kind of neighborhood do you live in. Is it noisy. Have you tried the calming spray on her favorite blankey. I have a lab that I just couldn't break of pottying on the floor when I was away. she wood hear a noise and she would pee. We set up video camera to find out what was triggering it. Sometimes it was When the kids let out after school and they were yelling as they walked by the house, a car back fired one day,an accident in front of the house. I lived on a busy road. So, I crate trained her for when I was away and put her favorite blanket in there and sprayed it with calming spray from pet smart. And replaced my carpet, because she completely destroyed it.lol. But of course it was of no fault of her own. She had an awful past and she carries those fears.

Please don't smack your dog.. This isn't going to solve anything.. Try and confine the dog to one room and one room only. She comes from an abusive situation so it will take a lot of trust on your part to help her.. If you smack her it's probably just bringing her past situations back into play again.. Gain her trust and the rest will fall into place. Meanwhile confine her to one room.. Take her out often as you would a puppy. Praise her when she goes or reward her... Don't give up on her.

Hi! I am a new member to the site! and your question caught my attention as i have a 7month old boxer too!! The only way i can give any help is to tell you how we potty trained ours We crate trained her and it took about 2months for her to be totally potty trained but the crate defantely worked - cos we only use it when we got out and she doesnt like to mess in it - and as soon as we got back we put her straight out in the yard and it seemed to work and we used the 30min rule the rest of the time - infact she loves her crate so much that we leave the door open and she always just goes and sleeps in there in the day!! we too have a cat and boxers definately like to chase - we just keep telling her to sit and no when she chases and i think its gonna be a long process!! Hope this helps??

you have a handful to deal with,as for the cat,do not worry she or he will deal with the dog,one day you may see them laying side by side.i totally agree with the cage idea,it does work with puppys, they will not go potty where they sleep, period.always use the same term,go potty,go potty more, whatever you use do not change it,put him on a leash, and walk him whee you want him to go,you have to do this all the time, and you will start to notice he will head to where you take himand since h4e was abused,be easy,it does not take much sometimes to remind them of the past, you have one of the best dogs there is,.if you get a cage, get the BIG one now because it will not be long and you will need to update, yuo will find he will probably go to it to nap on his own.give him a nice soft blankie and here is hoping you have good luck.keep us updated.....

We watch Dog Whisperer on Friday night on the National Geographic Channel at 8:00 P.M. Maybe look in your TV guide and it will tell you as this guy really knows how to deal with dogs. I have purchased some of his books also!

I have house broken several dogs, but just the past 3 have really taught me how. I am able to stay home with them so it is easier, but I got them out every 2 hrs(yes at night and in all weather) and when they tended to business, I heaped praise on them. If there was an accident in the home, I ignored them. Believe it or not, they will find reasons to "go" just for the praise alone.

Hi, I know your dog has gone on to greener pastures but I just had to say this. My daughter (who lives downstairs from me) brought home an adorable 8 wk. old Cocker Spaniel Memorial Day weekend 2007. She works and he just got completely potty trained at 1 yr. She tried everything. She put him in the crate and all he would do was cry. He hated being alone. She got a gate to confine him in the kitchen using puppy pads. When she was home he wouldn't let her know when he had to go. He would pee and poop right in front of you! She would then put him in his crate just long enough to let him know he was bad. Then out of the blue (at about 1 yr.)there were no more accidents! Now Bubba gets right in her face while she's sleeping to let her know he's gotta go! Since he can hold it longer, she brings him upstairs before work and he's content to stay with me all day. He still doesn't like to be alone. We have 3 cats so we just chill in my bedroom and if I go anywhere I take him along for the ride. I just looove him. He is the sweetest dog ever!! I think all dogs are different and when its time they'll be ready!
