I know what you are going through, It was causing problems for my fiancee and I. We had an Eskimo Spitz, beautiful white long hair dog. Girl, that dog was shedding when I thought there was no hair to shed. It floated in the air. I ended up having to give up my "Buddy" and I cried for days. Don't make the mistake I made. I found out later, there are supplements you can get for your baby, yeast pills plus now they have new and improved brushes and combs for those babies. I loved my dog but it caused problems at home. I wish I was as smart as you to inquire. Good luck.

5 cats, 1 German Shepherd and 1 Black Lab here. Talk about hair.
Jackie it's easy to feel the pain in your type... I'm really sorry for you. I have SEEN supplements in stores but what I found works best for my ever-shedding-shepherd is a special rake type brush. I asked one of the folks at Petco about hair and WOW was s/he right (can't remember). One swipe and a have a fist full of hair. After I get a lot of hair up, I always give my GS a massage and move the fur forward, losening any that was about to come out but sort of stuck. I also think it helps that I have a Dyson vacuum, this really does pick up pet hair. My tiny house, vacuumed daily, will need at least two canister empties during operation. Best of luck, keep trying. Don't forget that pets shed before each season. |

I have found that the yeast pills seem to help and also there is a shampoo for dogs that I think helps as well. I always get it at Walmart.

Hi gals! I have 2 cats and a dog. I know about that flying magnetic hair. I have found that a window squeegy works wonders raking it over the furniture. The rake that was mentioned before is also good. The swiffer is a must everyday, sometimes 2 times a day. I put quilts on the back of my couch, looks good, when company comes, I can take them off if I wish. Other than that, I just deal with it. My pets are worth it. That is why it is called "fur"niture. lol

Hey Ladies, I bought this brush called a de-shedder brush. You have to use it everyday for a couple of weeks then only once a week. They are expensive $40.00, but worth it. I also use a swifter. I got that tip from the beauty salon that deals with hair all day. Hope this helps some.

My hubby and I have a golden retriever mix doggie, so we know about the shedding!! I found one of those "de shedder" combs as sold on tv, but bought one at Odd Lots (or big lots) for only $5 last year. It works great. You don't have to spend $40 on one. I do go through a bunch of sweeper bags though. Anyone out there tried a Dyson sweeper? Just wondered if it was worth the high price.

Hello... I have had dogs for years. I have recently found out that the by-products in their dog food really contributes to the shedding problem. I switched to a dog food that has no by-products and what a HUGE difference!! I wish I knew this years ago.
The only thing that helped me out around the house was to just stay on top of it. It's hard to do, but honestly if you don't sweep, swiffer or run the vac on almost a daily basis it'll get out of control around the house. My dog hardly sheds now. And I truely believe it's the dog food that made the difference because when we first adopted him he shedded like crazy. |

What brand of dog food do you use? We switched from Hills Science Diet to Iams. We give her the weight control formula. We switched several months ago, since Science Diet rarely gives out any coupons and Iams does. She's going to the groomers tommorrow, so if I start brushing her again daily thereafter she doesn't seem to get matted fur so bad. She doesn't like to be brushed though!!

We have an adorable Cocker Spaniel, that thankfully does not shed!! Unfortunately, we also have 3 cats and 2 of them do. It's weird, but my long hair black cat doesn't shed. My other 2 have short lighter hair and there's hair everywhere!! I try to keep them out of my bedroom because I don't like sleeping with hair! I've put up with it for years- I could never part with any of my babies. I would like to try the hair spray, but can someone tell me if it's safe for cats?? They are always grooming themselves so they would be consuming it. Thanks all for your helpful hints!

You must get a "FurBuster." It looks like an oversized razor...but with NO CUTTING BLADE. This thing really works. You will have wads of fur. I purchased mine at WalMart. But you can get the a more expensive version at PetSmart. Use the FurBuster OUTSIDE! It gets the undercoat and leaves the fur shiny and healthy.
