Now that the weather is cooler, I have a problem with mice in the garage. I have a "pantry" in the garage and noticed what seems to be chewed boxes. Typically puddings, cake mixes, etc. I hate to throw the stuff away since I typically stock up when stuff is on sale. Any clues for keeping the mice out of my pantry?

There is a spray that contains natural oils. From what I've heard mice/mouse can't stand the smell. A second choice is a mice/mouse cube. The cubes are reusable, clean, easy and safe. You don't have to touch the mice/mouse at all. The cost for 4 cubes is $16.50. Go to (dreamingearth.com)for details.

hi EFFIE here. Buy a kitty, you will never have a mouse again.one warning, honey,if you have them in your garage, they have told all their family and long distance freinds they have a change of address, and you can be sure if not now yet, they will be in house soon.you have to be very careful of products to get rid of them, children, pets, hungary husbands etc.good luck.

Believe it or not I have used sunflower seeds to get rid of mice and it works. I had a mouse and a friend told me to use sunflower seeds because they like the salt.

I have heard put Oil of Spearmint around the house they can't stand the smell of it. I haven't tried it yet. I heard it from a friend who tried every thing in their cabin and this is the only thing that kept them out. Your house smells like spearmint but it could smell of worse things

We have problems with mice also because we live near woods & a river. Last year the people next door cut down a dead tree that had to be 75-100 years old that was infested with mice. We have resoted to storing EVERYTHING in plastic totes & containers. We have gone through dozens of glue & mouse traps because of pets and babies in our home. How do you use the mint? Will candels that smell like it work or do you have to use the oil? I would like to use something non-toxic because of chemical allergies.

Hi, I had a problem w/ mice in my RV. I read somewhere to use "BOUNCE" fabric softener sheets anywhere I thought mice might be coming in. I did it and haven't seen a mouse in over two years! Besides not seeing any mice, it smells good...

Try stuffing steelwool pads in any holes or cracks where they might come in. Also, store you boxed goodies in plastic containers.

What we found worked for our mice problem was putting peanut butter in traps, catches them evertime because they stay there to lick it off. Also I heard sprinkling Cayene Pepper helps as they don't like the smell but we only had to use the Peanut butter and got rid of them in no time.

We've also had a big problem with mice, especially in our RV and we live in a wooded area that appears to be loaded with them. They've chewed wires, made nests in our gas grill and I can hear them in the attic. We have 2 cats so I won't use anything toxic and I don't have time to check traps. What's worked for us so far is putting a few moth balls in old socks and leaving them in strategic places. I haven't used enough that the odor is very strong but haven't seen or heard of the little critters since. Its impossible to close up every tiny little hole or crack - you'd be surprised what they can wiggle in to. Or they simply chew another hole through the sheet rock in the garage!

I've used oil of peppermint (you can get it at a health food store)needs to be "oil of" not just peppermint flavoring. Just put a couple of drops each on a few pieces of cloth (I used cotton balls) and spread them out in the area your having problems with mice. I was having a problem with them in the attic crawlspace. If your worried about the carpet/wood having the oil soak in you can use yogurt lids to place the cloth/cotton balls on. The mice are allergic to the peppermint oil and should move out. You don't need to soak the material. The object is to get them to move not put them into anaphalactic shock (because then you would have dead little bodies to deal with). You will have to treat the material every few months.
If your having a problem with your garage I would treat the house 1st so they don't move from the garage into the house.
Also I know you hate to throw stuff out they have been into, but please if they got into food throw it away. You won't be saving money if you get sick and have to go to the doctor.
I hope this helps.

At work we have been placing hedgeapples around, seems to do an excellent job, when they dry out they don't smell and they seem to keep the mice away for a very long time. Plan to try them myself next year, I have a puppy right now that gets into everything.

We use the glue traps, but my sister uses the pepermint oil on cotton balls around the doorways and vents. Don't forget that they can come in on the vents in the roof too!
Otherwise the important stuff needs to be in plastic totes.
