Mary, I have found that a small amount of ajax in a bucket of warm water with a scrub brush works wonders. I won't take the color out of the carpet either, I do it on a dark green carpet.

I don't have an answer, but would also like to request info on how to get the odors out of old pet urine/feces stains. Even when I get the stain out, I can still smell it. I think there must be something that if I saturate the carpet with that it would help with the lingering odor?

PetSmart has this stuff called Nature's Miracle. It is great for urine stain and odor. It will probably work for the odor for the vomit too. As far as finding the urine stain, you need a black light. Shine the black light at night and you will find all the stains. Urine Gone is a spray that is sold that comes with a small black light. If PetSmart does not have Urine Gone, you can try Walgreens or CVS, they have it.

I found an incredible product for cleaning carpets. It's called ""Spotshot". It's a blue and orange spray can that works wonders on old ink, blood, practically anything I've tried it on. I swear by it.

Use the juice of a lemon mixed with water, let set on the area and then sponge up. After the carpet is completely dry, you can sprinkle baking soda on the spot each time before you vacuum, I use a natural vacuum like the one I used to my other home furniture. Some says Peroxide is also good.

My carpet on my stair got all soak and wet from an open heater valve. I had borrow a wet vac machine to suck most of the water. A couple of days later my whole house smells from the pads underneath the carpet that were still wet. I spray lyzol on every steps soaking each one of them. I place a hugh fan in front of the stairway. Had the fan on for 24 hours, which dry the stairs completely. Then I spray Fabeeze on each step soaking them with this spray also and turn the fan back on to dry this spray. Within 8 hours the steps were dry and smelling real nice. The Lyzol kill 99% of the mold underneath and part of the smell. The Fabreeze totally kill the smell. It was a process, but it work and all the smell is gone.
