Has anyone bought a new DVD recorder lately? We did in April. We did not use the recorder part, just played DVDs. Last week, we tried to program it to record my favorite tv shows as I needed to work nights. We couldn't get it to record on Monday. On Tuesday, we went to Best Buy. After explaining our failure, a gentleman said he heard that our brand had a timer problem, and that there was a recall. We called the manufacturer and they said no, that the DVD recorder would NOT record anything copyrighted. We could not believe that, so we talked to someone else at Best Buy. They said that was correct, that the newer DVD recorder can't record anything that is copyrighted. So, please, if you are in the market for a new DVD recorder, forget it. We are now out $182.00 of our hard earned money because we bought something that will not work!! Anyone else have this happen??

I do know of someone else this happened to and they are as livid as you are. If you want to record programs off of the TV, use either a good old fashion VHS or you need to subscribe to a DVR service through your cable/dish company. I still use VHS only because I can't afford anything more on my cable bill.

Try to connect your DVD Recorder to the A/V Out Jacks on the back of the Satelite receiver. You can record anything that you can see on screen. DirecTV does not (though they can) copy protect thier content.
