I started my diet and exercise regimen on October 26, 2007. I am 5'3" and at that time weighed 280 pounds. I am 47 years old. My mind set was very determined and I started by making short term goals. First, my goal was to lose 5 pounds per week, then it was to make it through the Thanksgiving holiday. With each goal met, I gave myself a new one (something to work towards). The next big hurdle was to make it through the christmas holiday without blowing my diet. In a two month period, I dropped 40 pounds. As the new year began, I made a New Year's resolution to stay focused, lose weight, but most of all, to become a happier, healthier me! To date, I have lost a total of 50 pounds. The weight seems to be coming off slower now but I chalk it up to fact that I am building and firming muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat. Even though I may not notice the changes on the scale as much, I do notice in my bodies overall size. My accomplishments were made not only by watching what I am eating but also by exercising. Every morning, my husband and I walk from one end of town to the other and back. It takes us 45 minutes. We walk every day outside except when it's raining. I dress in layers so warmth is not a problem. When the weather warms up (Spring) we will start walking in our favorite place (a near by park). Being nature lovers, the park provides a quiet and tranquil atmosphere. The trails provide the up and down terrain that gives resistance to our walking routine. My long term goal is to achieve a weight of 135 pounds and with my determination, I have no doubt in my mind that I will make it. As far as knowing how many steps I take in a day, I have no idea. I do not own a pedometer. Have a great day!
