Depends on who filled the plate. If I'm at home, I only put on the plate what I'm going to eat, at a resturant they put on the plate what they figure I'm going to eat. Usually always have leftovers then.

I can seldom finish whether I'm at home or at a restaurant. When I eat at someones house that I feel like a guest in (not family) I take small amounts until I'm full so that I'm sure I can finish but I have stomach problems so there are days I can only eat a few bites 4 or 5 and if I try to eat more I won't keep it down. So it's a problem guessing how much I can eat.

When I grew up we were not allowed to leave the table unless we ate everything on our plate. We didnt have snacks readily available as they do these days to tide you over if you got hungry. Nor the money to buy them. As a matter of fact when dishes were washed you were not allowed back in the kitchen. So we gladly ate all on the plate and I still do. Because of this practice I have a problem when I see people leave food on their plate.

It's always best for your health to STOP eating when you are full. To continue to eat just because there is still food on your plate will only stuff and stretch your stomach to a bigger size than what it is. This is the first sign of getting bigger and teaching yourself to OVER-EAT, so when your stomach tells you enough--LISTEN; so you can stay healthy.
